The San Giuliano Dam is a WWF naturalistic oasis, which extends for 2500 hectares, and represents the largest nature reserve in the province of Matera. It consists mainly of poplars, willows and tamarisks in the areas further away from the shore and of Aleppo pines and cypresses in the areas in front of the waters. h+ In the Oasis, there are many species of birds. This habitat is an artificial reservoir but it represents a site of a crucial importance for birdlife. It is in fact included in the list of wetlands of international importance for aquatic fauna.
