The Wonders

The canyon of Matera, the way of the Gravina stream

During the Neolithic period on the western side of the canyon, now Parco della Murgia, the first villages arose. The populations then moved to the eastern one: that is how the Sassi were born.

The prehistoric and historical soul of Matera are divided by a deep canyon through which the Gravina stream flows.

During the Neolithic period on the western side of the canyon, now Parco della Murgia, the first villages arose. The populations then moved to the eastern one: that is how the Sassi were born.

The two oldest and most precious sites in the city of Matera, separated by the Gravina stream, look at each other in a unique scenario.

Two sides of the same coin that come together thanks to a suspension bridge between the two rock ridges.

Venturing into the canyon through the paths and crossing the bridge is an extraordinary experience, highly recommended.

The canyon path is a journey through rugged and primeval nature.

A surprising journey, which allows you to reconcile with yourself, far from the rhythms of everyday life.
