The smallest tourist cave in Italy is located in Maratea, the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian”, and has been named the “Cave of Wonders”. Located in the inner part of the stretch of the coast leading to the Marina, this is the only natural cavity that can be visited in Basilicata. Its discovery dates back to 1929 and happened, by pure chance, thanks to a group of workers who were operating on the construction of the Strada Statale 18 Tirrena Inferiore.
